Roger, For pulleys with the necessary strength rating, have you looked at the pulleys made for off road winches. They are normally referred to as snatch blocks, and are rated at 20,000 lbs. The local harbor freight store has them for around $30.00 each. A bit more expensive than the hardware store variety, but plenty strong for the purpose. I think they are sized for up to 3/8" steel cable. I would start with just one for a 50% reduction in force at the winch. If that wasn't enough, then install a second one at the top of the lifting fixture. That way most any cable in the original size class would be plenty strong enough.73Mitch KJ7JA
