For those who enjoy modeling you might want to take a look at this "vertical on a beach" thread which was posted on eHam several months ago:

There are several caveats to watch out for.  In particular it's very easy to put the antenna "out to sea" when you meant for it to be "back from the beach".  For a discussion of this and other issues see section "Using 2 Ground Media" here:
