This topic HAS been covered here many times over the years.

At low tensions, there is a big difference in deflection between 
aircraft cable, 19 strand, and 7 strand because stiffness dominates. As 
you approach normal pre-tension values of 10% breaking strength, most of 
the deflection in the gauge is developed by the tension in the wire, not 
the stiffness.
