This is the concrete equivalent of capping a tooth.  The
overlay is purely cosmetic and doesn't need to be part of the original pour
which meets spec.  Anyone see any issues with this?

YES.  You are wasting valuable time when you could be on the air or drinking beer in your hammock!
Besides, you are setting standards up to which most of us could not live.
Tell people the curves are aesthetically pleasing and that they prevent directional  diffraction by the straight edges, which would compromise your pattern.
Plant daffodils along the edges people will love the artistic layout.
