I'm sorry but that is like asking why would anyone spend so much 
more for electricity to run ham radios instead of a cell phone! Many 
people here in Maine use grow lights to start vegetables for outdoor 
gardens early. At least a few grow vegetables to maturity indoors. 
Some do it because they want home grown food even if the cost is 
higher, others because gardening is as much a hobby to them as radio 
is to us. To keep this on topic, I prefer to grow towers. :-)
