Martin.  I have a 2 el wire beam on a 36 ft boom.  It is "kick a%&".  What I
did to solve that problem is dual drive the elements - 180 deg out of phase.
Then just switch matching stubs at the bottom of the tower.  It is only a
few tenths of a dB lower in gain than an optimized 2 el Ref - DE
arrangement.  You can do all the tuning, switching at the feed point
combiner at the bottom of the tower, and you have the advantage that it is
bi-directional.  From W1, that means it's a USA and EU antenna all at the
same time.
