Thanks for all the guys who fielded questions on the grounding topic.  Had 
the final inspection today and the guy did not ask a single question about 
it.  So I guess he saw what he wanted to see.

The NEC (NFPA-70) requires 8 feet of the ground electrode to be in ground 
contact....if a 10 foot rod is used, the termination is permitted to be 
above ground, as long as it is suitably protected against physical damage.

Another thought for Jeff -- last I looked at NEC, they want ground rods
at the service entrance to be completely buried, with the connection
below grade. There's a specified depth, don't remember what it is.
