Then how would ANYONE become experienced?

To error is human, we all make mistakes, hopefully not fatal ones.

When I was 16 years old I built 300 volt open breadboard power supplies 
and 2000 volt ones a few years later.  Today, many hams are afraid of 
those voltages.  There are risks everywhere in life.
