Half wave in height in of itself is meaningless unless the topography around the antenna. N6BV has a program which to me is the go to for questions like this. My station sits on the side of a 14000 ft mountain with a 1:6 drop in elevation to the north and a 1:6 rise to the south.
I have a three high stack of tribamders at 94,56 and 26. The tribander at 26 ft is far below 1/2 wavelength, in fact less than 1/4 wavelength. However, when modeled this antenna "looks" like one at 1 wavelength in height. However, going south, even the top antenna at 94 feet is not really all that good going uphill when modeled.
Be careful of generalizations about antennas.
