1/2" coax (RG-8, RG-213, etc.) will easily take well over 10kV. more 
like 50 kV. There's a whole family of HV connector schemes that are 
basically a drilled out PL-259 with a banana plug on the end of the 
extended dielectric/center conductor, so you have a good 2-4" of surface 
creep distance.
