Notepad can open just about any file.  Once its open you will see the raw file.  Odds are the data will not be useful.  If you then "save" / write that same file it will probably be corrupted so that the original application can no longer use it.

I think you can open a .wks file with Notepad.

That's a Lotus 123 file.

Older versions of Excel should open it.  If you send them to me, I will try to open them with Excel 2000 and convert them to (still antiquated) Excel files for you.
