[TowerTalk] Wasps in the Fall?

I’ve seen the same thing over the years. Next line you’d be 80 feet up a tower and have eight or 10 wasps swarming around you. As you said they did not appear to be aggressive but it was a little unnerving.
Someone told me those are the drones, the males, and they were not aggressive at all as long as you didn’t put your hand on them.
Since I wear gloves when I’m climbing, that’s not an issue. It’s probably been 20 or 30 years since that person told me that. I have grown somewhat used to seeing them and I haven’t been stung once.

They didn’t seem aggressive, but I beat a hasty exit. 2-3 h later, they’d vanished. I saw the same thing today: it seemed they were trying to go into booms and masts. They couldn’t get into booms because the ends are screened, but there were a LOT of them. 3-3 h later, they’d vanished. Anyone else see this sort of thing? Any idea what’s going on?
