Why not drill two holes of a suitable size about 120 degree angle
opposite one another and drive two wooden pegs into them, forming a
cleat configuration? Situate the cleat so the tension comes from the
side, and you are in business. You could even prep the pegs with
preservative if you're worried about rotting. I usually just find a
suitable branch and secure to that, but maybe your trees have no low
branches.

All wood solution, no future risk of a chainsaw mishap.
