[TowerTalk] Broken Alpha Spid

Mike,

Another rotor to consider is DX Engineering's TR-4500HD.  It looks
similar to an M2 Orion.  One of the neat features is the ability to
easily change out the pulse counter switch without having to remove the
rotor from service.  The only issue is it's still not available and has
no field use that I'm aware of.  Maybe W5OV or K3LR can chime in here.

While I've never had to change out the pulse counter on my Orion, I did
have to replace the counter in my prop pitch due to a lighting strike.
Luckily the prop pitch is at ground level as it turns a rotating tower.
I'm not sure why the Orion was not damaged during the same lightning
event as I think that particular tower is the one that took the hit.

I use an M2 Orion with an upgraded mast clamp from Champion Radio.  It
turns a F12 C31xr and a F12 Delta 230/240.  We get high winds here on a
regular basis and so far, knock on wood, I have had no issues.

I did have an issue with the original M2 mast clamp as it would allow
the mast to slip so I replace it with the Champion mast clamp.  I was
hesitant though as I always thought the slipping mast was a good 'fuse'
to protect the rotor.  It got to the point it was slipping on a regular
basis so I took the plunge and replaced it.  So far so good.
