AND, compare that, to the rest of the scenario.  What the rod interfaces 
with, from the surface of the rod, out to the entirety of the planet, 
and that, which can have an affectiveness from infinitely good, to 
infinitely bad.

The soil the rod is in can fail for its intended purpose from the 
surface of the rod outward, in general, is just better than none at all, 
and in all cases, better than through people, and equipment by default, 
without one.
