[TowerTalk] Moving ham radio eflectors to permit    attachments - Some History

Hi Folks!
Instead of moving to another platform that exists to sell our demographic metadata, why not just have a file reference server for info of lasting import. Allow a moderated upload with vetting before distribution file server host.

Now before you say that is old school and clumsy, we really don't want attachments that aren't checked out for viruses, do we? Sure there are attachment checkers, but groups.io and other similar sites don't provide that functionality.

Additional volunteers with skills and tools will be needed to vet and post user-supplied attachments. Ask yourself if you are willing to help out?

Merry Christmas All!

Hi,

A robust discussion with the subject "time to modernize the reflector" was held on TT in the summer of 2019. If you read the posts, they are much like the recent ones. Also, in the summer of 2019 a towertalk groups.io was created. It currently has 135 members with 22 posts in 2021. A move from the current contesting.com based reflector to groups.io, or another similar service, will only be effective if a critical mass of TT users move.

> $ 20/month for up to 500 members.? Additional members $0.44/member/year.? I have no idea what the total membership of towertalk is, but suspect it's a couple of thousand, which suggests another $700 a year for per capita fees, so let's say $1000/year.? I think PVRC might slide into the $20/month category. There are 2k TowerTalkians so your estimate is probably a good one. Tnx. Cheers,Steve K7LXCTT ADMIN
