Those overlapping HD thimbles will likely become active diodes over time, especially in a salt laden environment.  Spend the money for the insulators Bill, do it the right way, not the cheap way ... it will save you headaches later.

It seems this method would eventually fail due to the wearing away from vibration on the galvanizing and rust would start corroding the unprotected stell thimbles.     Nothing's going to wear away. There is no movement to anything - it's all just in tension. There's no failure in the method you're describing in my experience.
