[TowerTalk] Ham IV part identificaiton

Marv - Had a similar problem ~3 yrs ago w/ a NEW Ham IV bought from HY Gain. It was mounted internally in my TX-472 and turning a 4 El SteppIR. A few mos after install, I went up the tower to see why my in shack indicator was showing the antenna/rotor to be free-wheeling. Thought maybe the mast clamp had come loose, but when I found a bolt sitting on the rotator motor shelf I looked further and found that the bolts between top and bottom of the rotor had backed out! As such the only thing keeping the two halves together was the weight of the beam. So, since tilting the tower over would result in rotor separation, hired a crane to lift off the beam and mast first . . . and when tower tilted the rotor bled ball bearings. Hy Gain made good and sent a new rotator (Tech comment was - you, too . . there were others so HY-Gain knew several yrs ago), but the crane and all the sweat equity to reinstall the new rotator (ultimately a Yaesu 2800) were my costs. Sold the several Ham IVs I had.
Good luck

I did get some from Hygain/MFJ.  I had a brand new Ham IV on an MA-40 mounted on top and the screws holding the top and bottom pieces together came loose and the antenna fell off.  Screws were not put on with Locktite.  Sent back to Hygain for replacement.  They replaced the top half and installed new screws.  Again no Locktite. I removed and reinstalled the screws with Locktite.  Hopefully this will keep it from happening again.  All the rotors I refurbish I use Locktite on the screws.   Skip Bolnick, KJ6YCommunications Service Cowww.kj6y.com818-522-5421  In a message dated 2/9/2021 8:19:30 AM Pacific Standard Time, marvs at att.net writes:
