Always assume that noise is radiated directly by wiring close to the
source, especially at higher frequencies, as well as being conducted
along power lines. The higher the frequency of the noise, the less it
propagates along power lines. And, in general, noise is attenuated when
passing through a transformer.

This is why experienced chasers of power line noise, which is impulse
noise, thus quite broadband, look for it at the highest frequencies
where they can hear it.

The best way to identify impulse noise is on a relatively fast
waterfall, where it will show up as horizontal lines.
