 Greg:
     I followed process 2 below when I installed my 22 foot CM mast.  Another local Ham and I dropped a pulling rope through the gin pole at the top of the Trylon tower and down and through the mast inside the bottom section of my tower.  At the bottom of the mast, we tied a small but heavy-duty mast clamp to the end of the pulling rope.  The clamp and knot were small enough to fit through the holes in the rotator plate at the top of the tower, but not so small as to pass through the bottom of the mast.  By doing this we were able to raise the tip of mast through all three plates inside the tower top.

     We hauled the mast up inside the tower and through the three mast plates at the tower top.  When the top of the mast protruded about 18 inches through the top (bearing) plate, I applied another clamp to the mast at the middle bearing plate to keep it in place, then removed the knot, bottom clamp and pull rope.  We installed the top vertical V/UHF antenna and coax onto the mast tip, then clamped a come-along to the mast inside the tower and cranked the come-along to raise the mast to the next antenna/coax position.  We installed the rotator onto its plate and dropped the mast into its clamps before we attached the final HF Yagi onto the mast.  

     As for placing the mast inside the tower, I had already constructed the entire 64-foot tall tower before I read this idea.  I leaned the 22-foot CM mast up against the side of the bolted Trylon tower.  I climbed the tower to the top of the mast and unbolted the cross-brace against which the top was leaning at that moment and allowed the mast to fall inside the tower just a bit.  I re-bolted that cross-brace back into place and unbolted the one below it.  Rinse, repeat until the entire mast was now inside the tower.

I have done it two different ways with my last two QTHs on a 100' Rohn 45
tower with flat top section.

1)  Tie the mast just above center of gravity to the lifting rope through
the gin pole.
