[TowerTalk] Radial Ends Buried???

 I have used HyTowers and home brew verticals for many years and have never buried the ends. Just install as many radials as you can and it will work well. GL and 73, Rod/w7zrc

This is my first post on TowerTalk.

I'm about to install 20 radials for a Hi-Gain AV-18HT and Hi-Gain recommends
burying the Radial ends if installing less than 60 radials. I called Hi-Gain
and asked them what they mean by "Burying the radial ends" and they
suggested a ground rod at each end.  I only have about 18 inches of top soil
and then solid Bedrock. What is the rational of burying the ends and how
deep?
