[TowerTalk] Ameritron RCS-4 Remote Coax Switch

I've been using an RCS-4 for years at 1500 Watts without any major
problems, including cases where I used an antenna tuner in the shack to
match a high VSWR on my vertical when operating on the higher end of 160
and 80 meters. The one unit I was using regularly did develop an
intermittent receive problem due to dirty relay contacts. That was easy
enough to fix, however.

As I recall from a conversation I had with someone at Ham Radio Outlet
in Burbank, there were problems with a production run of some of the
post-MFJ merger units. I believe it involved early failures of the
choke, but I don't remember if it was the choke in the control unit, the
one in the remote unit, or both.

Even though the are no longer building products, I think MFJ is still
offering repair services and parts (at least I thought that was the
plan). It might be worth a call to see what they recommend.
