Nothing new here. 70 years ago, when I was in high school and newly 
licensed, I was befriended by W8NJL, who was chief of a 5kW daytimer on 
1470 kHz a little more than a mile from my home. He had to replace his 
ground system twice within a year after thieves dug it up. On one of 
those occasions, he found it for sale on the street not far from the 
station.
