I dont know Darrell! Perhaps my 30+ year old 402CD++ doesnt know any better! ;)
Well, yea, it is a beefed up version of the venerable 402CD, but it's only been rebuilt once and yeah, I'm finally going to replace it with a JK 40 on the Mid Tri, but that damn thing has been a great antenna since the day put it up with the "QHS" mods and no truss required.
They were relatively inexpensive and easy to modify to whatever standard you needed. We also used a lot of their 13B2's around here when we needed a cheap 2 meter antenna or to build my KF3P FM 2m RX antenna built around Cushcraft parts.
OK, I never used any of the trapped tribanders, but they werent horrible compared to most other things at the time.
There was nothing wrong with the HyGain C version of the 5 element monobanders either. That boom to mast clamp is one of the best ever made IMHO. It held onto my 402CD++ for 30+ years without a pin, truss or slip at 125' on a 2" mast.
Would I buy them today? probably not... but maybe some of the parts as mentioned.

Does anybody actually buy a new Hy-Gain or Cushcraft antenna anymore
when there are more modern designs available?
