Fiber ethernet links are pretty inexpensive these days.  Maybe $70 for the ethernet to fiber converter at each end (although I see a TPLink GigE to Multimode SC for $36 on Newegg), and the duplex cable is $75 for 100 meters.
(You definitely want to order "patch cables" with the connectors already installed, unless you do a lot of fiber stuff)

BTW, we learned the hard way to have lightning arrestors at each end of
