Sure. And I understand all of the practical realities that you point 
out. But as I see it, all that is dancing on the head of a pin.

99.9% of hams don't have the capability to measure the multiple systems 
into which they must insert a choke. When I worked briefly at Motorola 
as a student, I learned the fundamental principal that every part that 
comes out of the box has to work. I also learned from Bob Drake (at R. 
L. Drake) as a student that you've got to wind your own coils.
