You want/need vertical separation to get any decent amount of isolation, i.e. the two antennas mounted along the same vertical axis, one above the other, with as much spacing between the tip of the lower antenna and the bottom of the lower antennas a possible. If you mount them at the same elevation, you'll probably only have 20 or 30 dB of isolation between antennas.

For easy homebrew mounting of lightweight antennas like that, use Unistrut and U-bolts.

Subject: [TowerTalk] vhf/uhf antenna mounting help please

Hello Gents,

I’m helping another ham with an antenna project and need experienced help, Thanks!

We need to mount a vhf/uhf aluminum HAM band j-pole and a commercial vhf/uhf, (Comet GP-6NC), 153-157MHz, 460-470MHz, fiberglass vertical antenna, (10ft tall, 3.5 lb weight), on a cross boom. I’m thinking of a chain link fence top rail for the cross boom, possibly with mini-guys to prevent sagging.

What minimum distance should they be apart?

This cross boom assembly will be mounted on a guyed seamless tube 36ft tall. More about that later.

Thanks!
