But the shield may have a traveling wave, either due to radiation or 
nearby lossy objects, the latter especially for underground coax. Even a 
partial traveling wave that includes some residual standing wave can 
fill in current dips.

Here's a model of a traveling wave on coax feedline. I did this to model 
a very long feedline. You just place a resistive load near the end. 
Adjust the position and resistor value for flattest current.

I'm posting this link mainly because I was disappointed with the image
