This may be a question regarding general CW contesting rather than TR
but they are related. When I am in CQ mode and a station calls me, but I
do not have the full call, what action is the generally preferred method.
In other words, do I type as much as I copy, then have a function key
send \ ? for the partial call and a question mark? DO I simply use the
paddle to get the call and hit return after I have the complete call in the
call window? Or do I type the call, hit return (so it only sends the call
window contents but no question mark) and the exchange?
Does one ever send the exchange without knowing the complete call?
BTW, the program worked great this weekend. The radios were not
interfaced to the computer so a few loggers missed a band change, but
they told me in time. Most CW ops used the paddle and just used the
computer to log since they were not comfortable with the things the
computer was sending. I heard many comments like "it had a life of its
own". Considering that I had to keep my hands in my winter coat
pockets because it was so cold in the Utah mountains, the auto CQ was
a god-send with the phased verts on 40 at night. We ran W7SP 2A UT.
