Yes.
One comment about questions like this - it is often just easier to
try it than asking.

I have tried everything that I can think of to use the Packet in TR Log. I am
using a PK900 and cannot get it to react. I use the TNC in Logic5, WF1B
software and the Packrat for Windows. Tried both 7 and 8 bit. When using the
Ctrl B, I cannot type or receive. No problem interfacing the FT-1000MP, and
the program works just fine in Windows 98 and DOS. If any knows what I am
doing wrong, please let me know.
Thank-You,

True, but... then the rest of the reflector might be prevented from
finding out about it... and this is a GOOD thing for all of us to know.

When the QSO is logged, the QSO number is incremented.
If you turn AUTO QSO NUMBER DECREMENT on, it will send the previous
QSO number if the call window is blank.

The LOG FILE SIZE FAILED test is to see if the program things the
log file is about the right size for the number of QSOs you have.
I have heard of it failing occasionally. Perhaps I need to loosen
up the criteria. If you can give me a copy of the log fle when
this happens, I can see what needs to be done.

Sounds like a good idea. I think this would be easy to implement.

Yes - W1WEF is making them - I stock and sell them.
There are several models.
CW only - serial or LPT ports - $23 + shipping
CW and PTT - LPT port - $39 + shipping
CW, PTT and Paddle - LPT port. - $49 + shipping
I have photos on the web - but I will have to
find them again - I made a post a few months ago
with the URLs.
I have not gotten around to a web page yet but soon.
Thanks

I am having trouble with TR 6.40 in regards to the sbdvp program. I
built a cable for the parallel port to control cw and ssb. The cw works
fine I pulled pin 18 for the ground and pin 17 routed through a NPN diode
and to the cw jack. I setup the ssb in parallel as suggested by another
email from the server. I know I have the connections correct because I can
key up the radio from the Mic jack in cw mode but not in ssb mode. Is there
something in the programming that I can modify the software to key up the
radio in ssb mode for the length of the voice recording.

Not sure of what circuit you speak. If the current is being set with
a current limit resistor, then you shouldn't need a second diode in
series. However, removing it will change the resistor value to get the
same current.

Hello Don,
The circuit on my web site has the diode in series to protect the LED
when the RS-232 level goes to the opposite state. The -12v when the keying
is turned off is way over the PIV rating for the opto-coupler LED.
I've tried the circuit with a number of current limiting resistor values,
and it keys reliably with 1 ma or more forward current. Ones I've built
with 1k and 2k resistors have been in use since 1992 with no failures.

Perhaps TRLog will do this, and I haven't been able to find it.
As an apartment dweller, I run QRP to a random wire, and have to use a manual
tuner. A simple function in TRLog to allow me to key down the radio to set my
tuner would be helpful (I have a TS-50, and there is no tune control unless
the autotuner is attached).

1.Does TRlog support PS/2 port at all. I have mouse connected to PS/2 and
cannot use it in TR with the band map. All 4 serial ports are used by other
devices.
2. Is it possible to use PS/2 in TR for linking computers in MS?
Pretty much needed in expeditions when we carry notebooks. Purchasing PCMCIA
cards with extra ports is too expensive while PS/2 seem to be idling.
3. Anything new on the front of using network cards for linking computers
(similar to CT)?
4. Just got UX-14 comp interface for my IC-751A. It supports 1200 and 9600
baud. Are there plans to implement 9600 baud in TR for interface with the
radio. 1200 seem to be OK but extra speed would do me any harm. After all I
know that 57000baud is supported so why there is no 9600?

You might need to run something like the MOUSE program for TR to see it.

57000 was a test - and I don't think it worked.
The baud rate really doesn't affect the throughput.

1.When radio is in SSB mode and I grab the CW spot from the band map the
freq. changes but the mode does not. Is it possible to implement such a
feature in TR log that let me define the boundaries of CW and SSB
subbands(keeping in mind that those are different in different countries)
and enable mode switching based on that data?
2. When I got computer control for my IC751A implemented I found that while
tuning the receiver in S&P it sometimes "hangs" for a second, just like as
if antenna gets disconnected. I believe it has something to do with reading
the data from the transceiver processor. It is usually enough to move the
freq. another 100Hz and the radio recovers. Has someone else ran into such a
problem? Is
there a remedy?

TRlog Version 6.38, Kenwood TS850, Compaq 1235 Pentium
166 laptop and a MIT (Made in Taiwan) Pentium 166.
Windows 95 on the 166 and 98 on the laptop.
Keying:
I'm having trouble (mentally) with the logic of strobe (pin 1) and
pin 17 on both computers. There is 5V between pin 1 and 17 when not
keying. Logically, to me anyway, this would turn on (key the xmtr)
both a PNP transistor or the 4N35 Opto Isolator when not keying. When
it is keying this level goes from 5V (for keyup) and to 0V for key
down.
It's as if both computers had their logic upside down. The same thing
is happening to the logic outputs of pins 2, 7, 8 and 9 used in
band/antenna switching.
Is there a setting in TR to correct this or have I missed the boat
entirely?

The trick here is that pin 1 goes low when you want to key and pin 17
goes high. This is something CT did in the old days and TR copied.
There are two or three reasons it is done this way:
1. Allows for a negative base voltage to assure that the transistor
is really off.
2. Keeps the rig from keying when the computer is reset.
3. Perhaps allows you to make an easier interface to a negative
keying radio.
So - when the computer is not keying - think of that 5 volts as
negative 5 volts.

This I don't understand. Is it different than what the manual
says should be happening?

No settings I know of to change it.

Tree,
Thanks for enlightening me about the parallel keying logic. As usual my
curiosity has netted some knowledge even if it has been gleaned from
someone else.
As to the band/antenna switching. Problem solved. Cockpit problem as usual.
There is no mention of how to use these switches so I just copied the opto
isolation circuit using the strobe. Well, that was a mistake. The strobe is
not needed for this operation. Just tie the 4N25 LED cathodes to ground.
Now on with the project. All drawn up on AutoCad and partially
assembled. Will be using two small Jennings Vacuum SPDT HV relays to switch
an A4 tribander/2 el 40 beam/80 vertical coaxes. Project is to be used in
the upcoming CQP in rare Alpine County which we operated from the past two
years. Pray for no snow this year. Close calls in past years. Elevation
8400 ft.

Quite frequently the Multiplier Needed Window was showing
me the wrong multiplier in the NAQP last weekend.
For example, in cq mode, when I typed N9HDE (who is in MO) in
the call window, and hit return, the mult needed window showed
me the bands on which I needed South Carolina! This occurred
even though I had worked N9HDE on another band, and MO was
properly displayed in the exchange window. Anybody else see
this? It seemed to occur on about 10% of the qso's.

It works just fine at my QTH.
The DRU external trigger jack is a mono phono jack.
To select the proper playback memory, you connect a certain
value of resistor across the mono jack. There are three
memories, with three different resistor values. The values
are in the TS-850 Manual. I'm not at home and don't have my manual,
so I don't remember the resistor values.
Hre's what I do for each of three DVK outputs:
Each DVK output goes to a 1k resistor, which goes to the base
of an NPN Germanium transistor. I chose Germanium for its
low Vcesat, but Silicon might work. Attached to the
collector of each transistor is a variable resistor of
approximately the value Kenwood specifies to trigger a particular
memory. The value of this resistor has to be determined
experimentally to ensure reliable triggering of the correct
memory, because Vcesat is between the resistor and ground.
The "high" sides of the three variable resistors are just tied
in parallel, and that junction is connected to the phono jack.

Good point Dave. I did not see what you mention, but noticed that sevaral
stations which I knew were needed on other bands were not shown as such in
the window - I didn't look at those windows very often because the
information was not important.
Tree, I could try to reconstruct this if you wish.

Yes, I expereinced the same problem. It seemd that the mult info
is being derived from the NAME, and not the STATE. (N9HDE is SCott...)
Seems this was the case consistently. It made it impossible to know
if I needed to move a mult to another band.

Similar problem here with European HF Championship.
TR computes ITU zone from callsign and uses this to see if needed mult, even
when a check is entered in the call field in S&P. Mult need display is wrong
in any case as EUHFC of course does not deal with zones but with checks.
Any way to stop TR from doing this?
Any way to process checks from exchange memory, from the database or ones
entered into the call field?

I also saw this behaviour. It seemed to be picking up the first
few letters of the name (from the 1st QSO) and trying to use
it as a state abbrev.

I can confirm the behaviour in the EUHFC.
even if just played in for a couple of hours.
I didn't have any INITIAL EXCHANGE set
but TRLog show the ITU zone in the ecxhange WINDOW
and use that (wrong) info for all the other features
including the MULT needed display.
In this case there is a wrong interpretation of the rules
and I think this is easy to fix.

I also saw this kind of behavior this past weekend
(v6.30). I had an additional problem in that
the multiplier needed information would only stay
on the screen for a second. It appeared between the
time I hit return and the time when the qso would
scroll off into the edit box. This was troublesome
as it was hard to tell if I needed to move someone
unless I made a conscious effort to look up at the
correct time and take a mental snapshot of the mult
info before it disappeared (this OT has limited
internal multiplier tracking
bandwidth).
When I tried to duplicate the problem here at home,
the mult needed window seemed to work okay. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike, W4EF...........

Message-ID: <8160937F4F4CD111A93E00805FC175290135AD9C@ntsiaexch.office>
Hi all,
trying to setup TRLog for the next WAE
I used the simulator (nice feature).
Some stations, after the exchange, ask for QTC.
I read the manual and says: use Ctrl-Q to either send or receive QTCs.
I wanted to receive those QTCs so hit Ctrl-Q.
The programs sends ATC and then wait
for input #/# or return to QRU.
The simulator does not send anything else after that.
Is that OK (namely the simulator just pose the question and
nothing more), or should it send real QTCs?
In that case what has to be done?
Please let me understand this feature.
Thanks for any help.

Sending "ATC" is because there is also a beep prompting you to
input data. The computer actually sends QTC.
For Europe, you need to just make stuff up and enter it. The simulator
wasn't taught how to do this. It is only fully functional if you are
outside of Europe.

Folks,
When using the simulator I am unable to enter a call or exchange when a
station is sending a correction or in a QSO with another station (sprint
practice). When the phantom QSO is finished or the calling station is done
calling I can enter the required information. I have noticed this in the past
and wonder if it is working as designed? Seems as though I would want to enter
the call of the station hanging around as soon as I know it. I can use the
head copy practice though.
Any good hints on how to use the simulator for the Sprint?

I had an interesting experience with an Alt-U to clear the temp log to make
a total of 6 QSOs available for a QTC. TR-Log generated a QTC ??/10 with
slots 6 through 10 as blanks. It only happened once; and I cleared the temp
log several times during the last hour of operation.
Had three instances where TR-Log sent QSO data for the station receiving the
QTC series back to him. I had to edit the QTC files to get the totals
correct.

I had the same experience except mine occurred with 7 QSOs. I had used alt-U

Did you hit Alt-Q before?
It has always worked OK with me, no doubt.
The only strange thing I noticed is
if you have some Ctrl characters to increase
the speed and the correspondent ones to reduce
to the initial value
(for instance to send TEST faster)
and if you let the CQ go, run after run
the CW speed is slightly increased
and after a couple of minute,
if you had an initial speed say 32
your transmit speed becomes higher
abt 40/42 and continuosly increasing.
If you hit ESC to stop and then Alt-C
again the CQ start with the last reached speed.
If you hit F1 this reset the speed value
to the initial one and the next Alt-C
will start from 32 (and still will
increase at each run).
Anybody notice this before??

Hi
I note that v6.42 believes these are in Europe, as does my
standard loging prog., and logs zero points accordingly.
Clearly RI9C and RF9C believe they are in Asia!
Easy to rescore 1 point each, but should they be counted simply
as UA9, or is there more to it?
On a separate tack
Having not used QTCs into the computer before, I struggled with
brain " retention" ( lack thereof) of the data at 35wpm, being
keyboard challenged! Since this is very difficult to practice
off line ( normal exchanges are not demanding), a QTC simulator
would be nice. For the wish list?

TRLog believes whatever cty.dat says, and v6.42 was packaged with an old
version of cty.dat (25.10.98). A newer (newest?) version (25.5.99) can be
found at

RI9C , RF9C and UA7A are all just UA9. The first two (along with RK9CWA)
are in the vicinity of 1000 meters from me and made my operation in the
contest a real challenge.
I have long edited CTY.DAT file to reflect the reality.
>Clearly RI9C and RF9C believe they are in Asia!
>
>Easy to rescore 1 point each, but should they be counted simply
>as UA9, or is there more to it?
Made 1400 QSO with 6.42.
First time did it with band map enabled and cluster connected. Very
impressive :)
The only small thing I have noticed (apart from speed building up in auto
CQ, which I think was previously discussed here. In fact I think that could
be counted as a feature) was ESCAPE working same as ENTER when you press
CtrlQ and then want to abort the process.
For the "wish list": can we have the command similar to Ctrl L but to see
the list of already sent QTC (especially the last 10). There is some strange
breed of ops who first cfm the qtc and when it is gone from the screen come
back to you and ask for a fill :)
And yes, in two cases the QTC was sent back to the station that was part of
the QTC series, but again that is not important and happens very seldom.
I want to thank Tree for one very clever logging program that made WAE a
real pleasure with just 400 Watt and A3S.

Yes I think that was discussed here before, but it is not that important.
I have send you my CFG files for WAE and corrected CTY.DAT
Please put them on your site. May be someone would be able to use them in

This was my first WAE using TRLog, and my first attempt at QTCing. Enjoyed
it very much, lots of excellent EU ops able to copy all that stuff without
fills. The QTCs make the WAE an interesting contest. A simulator would be
nice.

Message-ID: <00a001bee8ef$ad11b840$c2539e3e@dl2zav>
Has anybody else encountered these problems:
1) Alt-A,R,T,C,N in WAE QTC receive routine work only with USE BIOS KEY
CALLS =TRUE
When = FALSE, the question is only sent when pressing it three times, I get
strange control characters on the QTC line for the first two keypresses.
This is independent of the keyboard driver used (see below).
- As usual I found the reason for this only AFTER the contest, had to use
paddles instead -
2) This probably is special for German keyboards:
' (apostrophe - which is Shift-# on a German keyboard) to send a packet spot
does not work with KEYB GR of Microsoft's KEYBOARD.SYS (Win95b 05-09-96
11:11). It does work with a small shareware keyboard driver (of 1994). This
is independent of the USE BIOS KEY CALLS setting.

Maybe the simulator could look for a prepared log file (say HISLOG.DAT) and
then process this with the simulator routine of QTC sending for dx stns. So
there would be data to be sent and copied.
At least for me there would be very much need for practising receiving QTCs
before the contest. HISLOG.DAT could easily be obtained by running a WAE
simulation using a dx callsign and one of the available master databases. Or
simply use your real log of EU HFC. Keying speed for the QTCs should be set
to about UP0L's keying speed ;-)
BTW: noticed some other things during WAE, but still investigating what I
set up wrong.

Tree,
I guess for the NAQP this weekend, the program is going
to place all the MIkes in MI, the SCotts in SC, the RIcks
in RI, etc? Is that how it works?
It's kind of important to see where the mults are needed,
so one can move them to the various bands. Is there any
chance of a fix? Or is there an old version that
works? I'm not at home, so I can't really test it.

When entering the received qtc I found that I was unable to move around the
time/call/number info using the right / left arrow keys. The only way to
edit the info as it was being entered was to erase the text until I got to
the field to change. This was a real bind if the the time or call was missed
as you have to retype all the info in again.... that is if you can remember
it.
Have I missed something ?
Is this the way it has always worked or has it been broken ?

Soro,
6.38 does the same thing for me. Had to get rid of the speedup and
slowdown characters in my messges to stop the increase. Maybe someone
has a solution. I'd certainly hope so.

Noticed the same behaviour on 6.42.
Painful!
It was funny anyway to receive QTCs!

Well, it really is a challenge. I'm not an excellent op anyway, but tried to
do my best. Wonder what the log checkers will make out of it. Remember there
is an additional 3 point penalty on every QTC line with a mistake. It is
very hard when QTCs are sent at full QSO speed. In a QSO, I first have to
copy a call sign, then there is a break, then a number . That's two (RST is
always 5NN). In a QTC I have to copy up to 30 pieces of data in a row! I
can't do this at the same speed as QSO data. Can you?
Wouldn't it make sense if the software automatically sent QTCs a bit slower
than the QSO text?
Maybe also simply double spaces between time, call and number could help
keep up with full speed. This would be a more significant hint to when to
hit the space bar.
Europeans, what do you think?
I know any change in TR will not solve the problem because
not everybody uses TR. But then I'll have somebody to put the blame on: "I
can't copy his QTCs because this guy is using the wrong logging software."
;-))
Could the line that appears after receiving all QTCs be made to read
"Press RETURN to log QTC ##/## or E to Edit:" ? (the line is long enough)
This would allow me to "QSL QTC##/##" with the paddles and then do some
editing (typos etc.) while the other station is already gone. Now that group
number appears only when the edit window is gone.
And could TR be made to give a beep when this line appears? I stare at the
keyboard (not the screen) when entering QTCs and sometimes miss that it was
the last one.

The slowdown and speedup characters must be balanced, in all their
uses. Each message using them must contain equal numbers of slowdown &
speedups. Use them all the time. Never creeps up or down. This is in
the manual somewhere. Currently using 6.42.

Look at the last year SSB results. UA9XL claimed the multiplier of
722(impossible even with 4000 qso) with only 276 QSO made and no log
checker noticed that. In fact I doubt all logs are carefully checked. They
probably only check the winners and runner up.

No :) In fact QTC is usually given out faster then QSO and therefore I
usually give QTC only to those who can copy very well. I know them, they are
the same year after year. Try to develop the technique that will enable you
to copy at any speed otherwise you will not be given QTC by regulars. That
is contest...

The speed is controlled by a sending op not by the software.

You can also record it onto the tape and type it in afterwards.

This is a small bug which only affects sending with Alt Q (Alt C) even when
the number of slowdowns and speedups is equal. Try it, leave it running for
5 or 6 times and you will see.

Europeans, what do you think? >>
Both are sensible suggestions I think, but as you say, what
about Brand X?!
The problem for me is not copying at any practical speed, but
getting it into the keyboard. My best keyboard speed at
acceptable accuracy is about 35wpm, and this is simply not fast
enough to take QTCs at 35wpm because of the brain delay. When I
try "copying behind", Anno Domini has determined that I cannot
retain time call and serial number if anything goes wrong, and
then must ask for a repeat. Perhaps there are techniques to
avoid this problem, but a simulator is a prerequisite. I did
try vocalising the exchange to make it as easy as for an SSB
operator, but in the heat of the contest, that was not
practical. Does anyone have any tips for the keyboard challenged
not in the first flush of youth?!
<< And could TR be made to give a beep when this line appears? I
stare at the
keyboard (not the screen) when entering QTCs and sometimes miss
that it was

Also a problem, but one trick is to press return twice when
QSLing the QTC. If it is *not* the last this will do nothing,
but if it *is* the last it will QSL QTC xxx/xx. Like you I
*have* to look at keyboard and not the screen.
<< Remember there
is an additional 3 point penalty on every QTC line with a
mistake >>
Is that actually the case. The wording of the rules is not
entirely clear to me. It simply says ( from memory) penalty for
QTCs which cannot be *verified*, which is not quite the same
thing in my book. Perhaps it is clearer in the native Deutsch?

You're right, Igor.
What I found, by putting five ctl-p/ctl-f's ahead of 'test' and
five ctl-p/ctl-s's behind netted a speed increase across a half
dozen or more repeats of F1 after alt-q and/or alt-c.
Interestingly, during the incrementing, the CW speed indicator in
the window below the call entry field showed no corresponding
increase.
I went back in to F1 and removed one ctl-p/ctl-f (making the
ctl-f vs ctl-s count four and five, respectively.).
After dozens of repeats in alt-q and alt-c, I have now noticed NO
speed incrementing--it's been playing ever since I started typing
(and editing) this note.
I'm using 6.42, by the way.

Message-ID: <19990819052829.15119.qmail@user2.teleport.com>
Wanted to get this out before the NAQP to solve the problem with the
mults showing wrong if the exchange comes from the exchange memory.
Will be making more progress on the other stuff in the next two weeks.
Tree
Release notes for TR Logging Program - Version 6.43
18 August 1999
Version 6.43 released on 18 August 1999.
- Updated HFC contest and improved defaults.
- Made Domestic mult status from initial exchange use last entry first.
- Fixed SENDCW command.
- Fixed ARRL FD exchanges coming from TRMASTER when using simulator.
- TUNE FOR DITS (control-J false). Sends dits at 75 WPM when left shift
and control keys depressed.
- Fixed floppy save crashing. Under certain amounts of available memory,
an amount of memory exceeding the amount available was attempted to be
secured. This resulted in an IO error, which would result in either a
program crash or strange behavior.
- Reworked much of the memory stuff in LogSCP. I did find one or two
things that might have been risky and could explain some of the
flaky operation people have seen when using the TRMASTER.DTA file.
- Improved memory usage of TR by using more overlays. I believe I
have saved 30K without affecting program performance. If you notice
some slower operation, please let me know.
- Fixed POST not allowing you to specify log name if no .CFG files.
Version 6.42 released on 5 July 1999.
- Undid problem with IARU and countries created in 6.30.
- Fixed cursor in wrong window after sending keyboard CW.
- Fixed QUESTION MARK CHARACTER and SLASH MARK CHARACTER to work
even if USE BIOS KEY CALLS = TRUE.
- Made REGION ONE FIELD DAY /m stations count as /p stations.
- Made initial exchanges for FD come up using MY FD CLASS and MY SECTION.
- Fixed FT100 frequency display.
Version 6.41 - Released on 7 June 1999.
- Added KIDS DAY contest. Simply logs whatever you put into the
exchange window. Added KIDS exchange received. This is probably
a useful thing for other applications as well.
- Added USE BIOS KEY CALLS - (default = TRUE, Control-J). In order to
use the F11 and F12 keys, TR had to interface directly to the hardware
because many older BIOS programs didn't know about these keys.
However, this makes it impossible to use other TSR program with TR.
TR will now use BIOS calls as a default. If your BIOS doesn't support
F11 and F12, you can go back to the old method by setting USE BIOS KEY
CALLS = FALSE.
- Made many TRMASTER improvements. Found some minor bugs that probably
explain some of the crashing some of you have noticed. I also
improved the memory management so that less memory is used for
smaller databases. This will result in very "random" memory
available displays, but unless you are using a monster database,
there should be more memory free than before.
- Fixed bug with POST U E F D (merge two .DTA files). I have now used
this to combine two very large databases. It does take awhile to do,
but it does work.
- Fixed POST U S (generate summary of restart file) command to work with
new filename standard.
- Made POST U E F F (load data into TRMASTER from ASCII file) to process
up to 10 different data items at once.
- Made POST less memory hungry.
- Added single line display buffer for unsent characters when using the
keyboard send feature. You can use the delete or backspace character
to correct typing mistakes before the code goes out on the air.
- Allow HELLO.DAT in same directory as other files (CTY.DAT).
- Fixed QUICK QSL KEY 2 command (was setting value for KEY 1). The
QUICK QSL KEY 2 is normally the equal sign and it sends the
QUICK QSL MESSAGE 2 (default is dit-dit). This gives you an
additional way to end CQ QSOs. This was a previously undocumented
feature.
- Made Control-U use call in exchange window string if CALLSIGN UPDATE
ENABLE is enabled. Before, the program would use the call in the
call window.
Version 6.40 - Released on 7 May 1999
- Improved showing of beam headings grids during entering them in the
exchange window. Also when coming from TRMASTER as initial exchange.
- Made initial exchanges from TRMASTER that are DomesticQTHs show their
mult status when coming up in the exchange window.
- Allowed TR to be started up with the prefix of a config file specified
which will automatically start that contest up (no selection screen).
- Fixed sent RST not being used with TR READ.
- Made /P calls not drop the /P when doing lookups in TRMASTER except
for name or FOC numbers.
- Fixed IS0 with wrong QSO points and exchange in ARI test.
- Fixed NAME FLAG ENABLE not working (name flag was always enabled).
- Fixed VE0 in RAC contest so it takes a serial number, but still counts
for 10 points.
- Created P13.DOM with VY0 added for RAC contest.
- Added ROTATOR PORT and ROTATOR TYPE (= DCU1 or ORION). The ORION PORT
command is still supported. Use Control-P to send the rotator to
the last displayed beam heading.
- Added FT100 to radio list. However, I am not sure there was any
difference between this and the FT920 setting. Let me know if it
has any issues.
- Fixed USER 4 and USER 5 overwrite change commands in POST. They were
affecting USER 3 status instead.
- Added BAND MAP DECAY TIME (control-J, default = 60) in minutes. Note
this applies to entries as they are added to the band map. Entries
made with a different value will still decay with their old time.
- Added RST PREFECTURE as legal value for EXCHANGE RECEIVED. This is
used for the JA INTERNATIONAL DX contest. Note that the QTHs will
show up with a "p" in front of them when shown as multipliers.
- Changed prefecture multipliers for JA INTERNATIONAL DX contest to
domestic multipliers similar to ALL JA contest. Improved visability
of remaining mults during QSO process.
- Allowed six digit grid squares to be entered instead of four, but
still use four digits for the mult.
- Added PACKET LOG FILENAME command (control-J). When set to a filename,
all packet spots received will be saved to this file.
- Fixed RANDOM CQ MODE messing up the Control-J menu.
- Change DKT in OKOM.DOM to DKL.
- Updated intial CQ EXCHANGE for ROPOCO contest to 5NN ). Eliminated
postal code form start up questions. Added ROPOCO.DOM file and enabled
domestic multipliers.
- Added EUROPEAN SPRINT contest. Added EUROPEAN SPRINT as legal QSO
POINT METHOD. Added QSO NUMBER AND NAME as legal EXCHANGE RECEIVED.
- Added AUTO RETURN TO CQ MODE (Control-J - default = TRUE). When TRUE
and you press the RETURN key in S&P mode - with the cursor in the call
window AND no information in the call or exchange windows - you will
be put into the CQ mode and CQ MESSAGE F1 will be initiated.
- Fixed All Asian and All JA entries in log prompt.
- Many improvements to the All JA contest (previously released only in
Japan two weeks ago).
- Eliminated prefectures 115 to 118 in All JA.
- Pretty much gave up on Aurora stuff RSTs.
- Fixed sent RST not working when using [ character in exchange.
- Fixed LOOK FOR RST SENT not showing up in Control-J menu.
- Added Alt-N option for sending Control-J parameter to network. This
will send the hilighted Control-J paramter to all of the computers
on the network. The change will also be added to the config file
so that it will still be there if the program is restarted.
- Fixed missing exchange for MICH QSO PARTY outside of MI.
- Released a special 6.39 to Tack with All JA improvements including
remaining display, made precedence H/M/L/P and added prefectures 48-50.
Version 6.39 released on 16-Apr-99.
- Updated IOTA QSO Point method to new rules. You get 15 points for
working an IOTA other than your own. Otherwise, you get 3 points.
- Attempted to fix crash with big packet frequencies greater than 1 GHz.
- Made ZZ00 not be accepted as a legal grid square in exchanges.
- Made notes in LOGCFG file that start with ; require space before the ;.
This fixes problems with having ; enbeded in a string that might be
sent to a radio (like Kenwoods).
- Fixed garbage in call window when using the Control-B command with
Auto-CQ active.
- Fixed turning on of DVP in Control-J. Made DVP ON disappear when
turning off DVP from Control-J.
- Made PTT HOLD COUNT of 0 not "hang" PTT.
- Removed RST ALL JA PREFECTURE AND POWER exchange and replaced it
with RST ALL JA PREFECTURE AND PRECEDENCE exchange since the ALL JA
contest now uses a single letter (H, M, L or P) to identify power.
Allows most any order for exchange information, but no duplication
of entry data allowed. 57923C will work as well (RST 579, Pref = 23
and power = C). On CW, 23 579 C will also work, but on SSB, it won't.
- Fixed summary sheet not coming up for Russian contest.
- Added ask for your state if selecting any of the QSO parties from menu.
- Added MIGHIGAN QSO PARTY (OR MICH QSO PARTY). Make sure to either
run TR NEW and answer if you are in MICH - or put MY STATE = MI
in the LOGCFG.DAT file BEFORE your CONTEST statement if you are in
Michigan.
- Changed MQP to MN QSO PARTY (to avoid confusion with MICH QSO PARTY).
- Updated SP DX contest for non SP stations. Added SP.DOM.
- Added LOOK FOR RST SENT (false - Control-J). Allows sent RST to be
entered with S prefix in exchange field. Works with RS on SSB too.
- Allowed for aurora RS(T)s on 6 and 2 meters for both sent and received.
- Added RADIUS OF EARTH parameter (default = 0). Enter in meters.
When something is entered, the default internal to the program will
be overwritten.
- Fixed bug when trying to set a key (like start sending now) to ;.
Version 6.38 - 16 March 1999.
- Fixed name of domestic files for Wisconsin QSO Party.
- Fixed WWL contest multipliers:
- Grid fields instead of grid squares for mults.
- MULT BY MODE = FALSE
- Allowed ESCAPE EXITS SEARCH AND POUNCE in addition to ESCAPE EXITS
SEARCH AND POUNCE MODE in LOGCFG.DAT file. This eliminates an
incompatability with the name Control-J uses when saving this
command.
Version 6.37 - 11 March 1999.
- Added ESCAPE EXITS SEARCH AND POUNCE MODE. The default is FALSE and
it can be found on the Control-J menu. If you set it to FALSE, you
will have to use SHIFT-TAB to go back into the CQ MODE.
- Added RSGB QSO point method. This scores zero points for a QSO in
your own country, 5 points for Europe, 30 for Oceania and 15 for
the remaining continents.
- Added NAME FLAG ENABLE. The default is TRUE and it can be found
on the Control-J menu. When FALSE, the asterisks that appear in
the log when you know the name of a station are disabled.
- Fixed bug with unwanted CW being sent with QSL BUT NO LOG option.
- Added - to send 1.5 * dah length. This might be a cool chracter
to use for your leading zeros.
- Fixed summary sheet not working for Croatian and Minnesota QSO Party.
- Fixed some reports not working because they were always looking
for LOGCFG.DAT - even if you selected a different log.
- Added WISCONSIN QSO PARTY (or WQP).
- Fixed band map cursor position if multi info window is up.
- Added { character to send complete corrected callsign in call ok
message. Before, there wasn't a way to send the complete call
of the station you just finished working.
- Fixed null character appearing in multi notes.
- Tried to fix missing grids from band map updates in Stew Perry.
Version 6.36 - Released on 14 December 1998
- Added new startup command "TR NEW". This will bring you to the menu
to select a new contest. You will also be asked what filename you
want to save your files under.
- When starting up TR or POST with more than one config file present in
the working directory, a menu will be presented allowing you to select
which set of files you want to use.
- Added automatic CW exchange generation for ARRL 10. Assumes you have
MY QTH or MY STATE setup. If you are outside W/VE, it does the serial
number automatically as well.
- Made MY QTH which acts the same as MY STATE in LOGCFG.DAT.
- The band map will now update the multiplier status for all band map
entries when working a new station.
- Many fixes to WAE QTC routines if you are outside Europe.
- Fixed bug if you made over 600 QSOs.
- Allow you to view the QTC.DAT file with Control-L key.
- Put note in log when a QTC is finished.
- Improved some keystrokes to make sure accidents don't happen.
- Fixed bug with improper initialization of QTCs when restarting program.
- Added way to send a string to radio serial interface ports. These
are message commands, so you would program a function key to send
a message to the radio as follows:
SRS=message - Sends message to active radio.
SRS1=message - Sends message to radio 1.
SRS2=message - Sends message to radio 2.
Please see section 4.2 of the manual for more information on how
to use the control-C and control-D commands in a CW message.
For example, if you wanted to program a key to make your Kenwood
radio use the narrow CW filter, you would program the following
message:
SRS=FL010009;
You would program this by using the Alt-P command to access the
function key you want to program. Then press control-P followed
by control-C to enter the control-C character, then type "SRS=FL010009;",
then control-P and control-D to finish the command.
This command can also be used to activate the digital voice keyer on
some radios.
- Fixed bug with Alt-=. If you turned off the CW monitor tone with this
command while the tone was one, it would stay on.
- Fixed last total line of POST L C not showing up (band/mode logs).
- Not allow JA Prefectures > 50 to be entered.
- Went to European distance for European VHF QSO Point method. This
routine gives different distances than the normal routine. Will
someone in Europe please confirm if it is working as expected?
- SCP COUNTRY STRING allows ! or - at start to make it exclude countries
instead of including them.
- STDCFG.DAT is a file you can put in the same directory as your
TR.EXE file and the program will always execute it as if you had
used INPUT CONFIG FILE for it. It is executed after all the other
LOGCFG.DAT commands are processed.
- Made POST's L P (pull computer ID into log) command process notes.
- Added computer ID to notes added with Control-N.
- Made " clear RIT. This is because on most keyboards, you have to
press the SHIFT key to get to the " character and it makes the RIT
move when you probably didn't want it to.
- Fixed POST's R L from crashing.
Version 6.35 - Released on 2 December 1998
- Fixed a number of crash possibilities in some of POSTs report
procedures.
- Made TR READ keep computer IDs.
- Allowed for the space character as a computer ID in the POST utility
that pulls out QSOs made by one computer.
Version 6.34 - Released on 20 November 1998
- Added MODEM PORT. This can be used along with the multi port to
allow connection of a second port over a dedicated modem off a
second serial port on a computer. Also, MODEM PORT BAUD RATE.
- Fixed Control-F1 not working for DVP and DVK program. Using Control-F1
to Control-F10 will instantly allow you to re-record DVP or DVK memories
F1 to F1.
- Improved DVK and two radio stuff functionality.
- Changed WPX QSO Point method to give one point for own country
(regardless of band). This complies with the new rules coming
up next year.

When I try the 6.43 release it fails to initialize, claiming it cannot find
S50P12.DOM. Yet the current directory has such a file. I'm wondering if
the program is overriding the default directory specification and trying to
find the file on a different drive/directory?

TR SENDCW filename will have the program send the contents of the
filename on CW. This is used mostly to help generate pileup tapes.
It uses whatever CW ouput configuration you have in the config file
(might only use LOGCFG.DAT). You can adjust the speed in real time
with the page-up and page-dn keys.

I do no editing on this single line at all. I simply type in the info I
missed at the end of the line. It accepts more than 3 items. You have half a
line, i.e. 40 characters, this should be enough to even type the whole QTC
twice. The line will look a bit weird, but editing/formatting can be done
before QSLing with Alt-E or after the contest.

They allow the European operator to ask for a fill by sending

Well I suppose this is a way around the problem however I am sure it must be
fairly simple to make the arrow keys move around the QTC line rather than
typing garbage as they do at the moment. Even better would be
Alt - t sending time ? and putting the cursor at the beginning of the time
field and in overstrike mode and so on for call and number.
What do you say Tree ?

Udo,
Thanks to the SENDCW command, here's how to make a sort of QTC
simulator for practice.
In POST make an ARRL type log of your WAE log.dat ( or any other
with serial numbers), say DL2ZAV.log. Then using a spreadsheet
import this into columns ( I use Tools|Data tools|Quick columns
in Quattro Pro) , but I'm sure Excel or Lotus 123 could do the
same.
Now delete all columns except Time, callsign, and serial number,
and then save this file as ( say) c:\myfiles\qtctest.txt using
Tab delimited ASCII format.
Then from TR issue the following command TR SENDCW
c:\myfiles\qtctest.txt, and TR will send the whole log for you
in QTC format. Of course they come one after another without the
opportunity to take a breather while you QSL! Perhaps Tree can
incorporate this in to a proper simulator, shouldn't be too hard
for a guru like him( grovel grovel!)
If you have another computer you could enter these QTCs into say
Notepad or a word processor, and then later check your accuracy.
Good luck!

Yes - simply replace the 0's in the file with T's. (Sorry - it has
been a long day and I couldn't pass this one up).

Doc can probably document this feature. However, I should probably
implement it in the software first.

Actually, he doesn't need to. Not only is SENDCW already there (I think I
counted five hits when I did a search), it even appears in the index. This
is in version 6.39 of the manual.
Doc N7DR
PS Clive, maybe you don't have the latest version? I saw another question
you posted recently that was already dealt with in the manual (sorry, I
can't remember what the question was).
PPS For those amongst you with enquiring minds; yes, there will be another
version before long.
PPPS We decided that we didn't really like any of the new logos enough to
put them on the cover, although we certainly thank the people who submitted
their efforts. So if you have a graphical bent (so to speak) please feel
free to try again. My suggestion is to try something to do with logs and
trees, but I'm certainly not wedded to that.

From Ron Simonton"
I think that this is a new one for me!
Several times during the NAQP I typed a call incorrectly and edited it in
the call window before attempting to save the QSO. I believe the typing
errors were associated with the prefix area of the call. After I corrected
my typing errors, TR would not save the QSO and gave a syntax error message.
I had to clear the call window completely and retype the call before I could
save the QSO. Is that something unique to my fumble fingered typing or a
problem with the program?

Anyone else see this? I didn't and probably edited many callsigns
in the window.
Ron - can you give me some of the keys that you use to edit calls?
Different people do it different ways. If you can come up with a
repeatable example - that would really help.
Also, your config file would be nice.

While operating in NAQP SSB using my 775 interfaced to TR642 the mode
would somtimes switch to "NONSSB".
I wouldnt usually see this until I logged the Q. And trying to edit
resulted in not being able to delete the first N in NON. But was able to
change the "ON" to whatever band I was operating.
Thoughts?

The SENDCW command is referenced on p. 66, p. 74, p. 76, and in the index as a
sublist under "Command Line Options". The text on p. 66 references chapter
7.2 for more information, but I cannot find that reference. Perhaps it should
reference chapter 8.3, Special Modes and Useful Utilities.
Hope this is helpful ...

Hi Kirk,
I had the same problem with NONSSB appearing randomly while logging
a QSO. It was a real headache, resulting in QSO's being logged on
the wrong band (or no band at all.) It also froze up the whole program
on occaision. If you look in the TR-Log reflector archives for August
1998, you'll see a long discussion of the "NONSSB" problem.
The way it was ultimately fixed on my system (IC-765 & IC-761) was
to make sure that the TRANSCEIVE setting of the CI-V interface is
set to OFF. I'm not familiar with the IC-775, but if it uses the
same CI-V protocol, it probably has a similar toggle. In the 765/761
it is an internal DIP switch. Don't know about the 775.
I would definately check this first. It fixed the problem for
many Icom users.

Nothing. You just need to understand the warped mind of the person who did
the indexing :-)
Look under Command Line Options; all the (known) options should be listed
there. (At least, they are in my master copy.)

Correctamundo. The last version of the document suffered greatly from bad
cross-references because: 1) I added a new chapter; 2) the original version
that I was working from had the references hard-wired.
The next version should have all (well, I'm bound to miss some) of the
cross references soft-wired and therefore, one hopes, correct.

This is a result of the radio and software not communicating - maybe
due to a missed bit or something. Hard to determine if the radio or
computer or software is at fault. You might try turning off the
polling during PTT which might reduce the problem if it is RF related.

I was one that had this problem through several versions
and remember the discussion. It finally disappeared and
I have not had it reoccurr. You guys make me shudder that
it may have reappeared, but I always set in my .cfg file
the no polling during PTT. Those that had the problem,
how was yours set?

Similar result, but probably not the same cause. In the NAQP, after hitting
enter to log a QSO, TR would change to a NONSSB screen for a moment, then
change back to where it was supposed to be. It did not cause any logging
problems, but it got my attention.
I do not think it happend on every QSO, but my monitor is off to the side so
am not always looking at it.

During the SSB NAQP I noticed on at least one occaison when using the band
map, when I tuned to a freq. with a callsign listed by it, the screen
wouldn't show any of the usual info but the cursor would jump to where the
end of the callsign should have been. I tried several ways of trying to
get the call to show up. It was a call that I had worked on that freq in
the first place.
As far as I could tell from then on I didn't have that happen again. This
was fairly close to the end of the contest so I didn't get too much time to
look for it again.

So, since we're on the subject of occasional buglets, does anyone else have
the problem that sometimes (rarely) when hitting a key on the number pad,
the number appears on screen instead of the correct CW message being sent?
In one recent short-lived version this was so bad at my station that I was
glad that I wasn't doing the contest seriously. In the last couple of
versions it seems to have gone back to a "few times per contest" thing.

Yep. I have seen this occurring spradically for a long time. In one recent
contest (IOTA?) it amused me that the call that wouldn't show up was
W3LPL's. Every time I reached 14024.8, the cursor would jump to the end of
the call, but the call wouldn't appear in the window.

Hello all
looking at the question of typing.
why look at the screen when inputting?
touch typing should be a reflex action when listening to CW even!
Try using a random CW generator (record the o/p) and input to a
wp - then listen to the tape and examine your score!!!!!!
Yes, it is tedious but good training.
Does anyone apart from DOC use the keypad cw message facility?
inputting serials # is MUCH quicker using the numeric keypad.
tip:
most keyboards have a blip on the lower edge of the 5 key.
locate middle finger on this and use this row as the 'home' keys.
use middle finger for 8/5/2 index for 7/4/1 ring for 9/6/3
the thumb will sit on 0, and little finger on 'return'
SIMPLE!!!+++

I noticed this too when using an IC-746. The frequency display in TR seemed
to change too for a short moment, as if the frequency was read in in two
chunks, say 14.020.5 maybe as "140"+"205". 140 is out of band -> NON ?

I'm using an external MFJ voice keyer that works great for Cqing and S&P...all the exchanges and QSL messages work fine. The only problem I'm having is while using Alt-D two-radio mode, the callsign works but the exchange is missing from the S&P rig. I've played with the various message slots and can't seem to find the one responsible for the exchange during Alt-D contacts. Any ideas?

[OL5Y]:
I vex with this kind of problems long time. On my PC it is NON instead of BAND info.
I found certain "specialities":
* it displays always during TX from DVP only (it is not RFI - w/o power)
* in this case decimal point on PC display moves 2 digit place to left (3756.5 shows 37.5)
* command has no effect (I think does not work)
I have IC-756 (transceive off) and PC 486
Agree that set "transceive off" solve NONSSB problem but this one not.

Ctrl-C in Packet Window invokes cmd: prompt from the TNC (PK-88 in my case)
and does not lock anything here.

It does work here ok on IC751A and TS-570
>* I have BAND MAP ALL BANDS = true. Incoming spot for some callsign remove
it from other band.

I do it using cluster software. CLX has got set/filter command. This
approach minimize traffic on the packet port.
>* Jump to frequency from bandmap cause switchover TRX from CW-N to CW
(without CW filters)
Well actually for mixed mode contest it would be good to be able to set band
boundaries using which the software would determine the mode. Now when you
jump from CW segment onto SSB freq the mode remains to be CW.
One more point. I do not remember if I ran into that using previous versions
of TR but in 6.43 if I work dupe TR gives it 0 points and does not include
that qso in QTC. Why?
There is nothing in the rules that does not permit gaining 1 point for that
QSO when sent as QTC. Am I missing something?

1. The ordinary number keys are in the same position on every keyboard;
keypads are usually stuck over to the right somewhere, past some
indeterminate number of cursor keys, etc.
2. I can reach the ordinary number keys without lifting my hands from the
home position; to get to the number pad I have to move my hands.
3. Many contests don't use serial numbers; I (speaking just for myself)
find it much easier to have the number pad programmed with a set pattern of
messages for every contest than to use the pad only for a few contests.
4. It's much easier to hit the big fat 0 on the number pad when I want to
send my call than it is to mess around trying to find the right function
key somewhere at the top of the keyboad.
But everyone has their own way of doing these things. It's nice that TR
lets most of us do most things "our" way most of the time. It only gets
irritating when it DOESN'T let me work the way I want to.

Message-ID: <19990825172459.18839.qmail@user2.teleport.com>
Just a note to everyone on this list that the CW Sprint is coming
up on the 4th of September - not the 11th as shown in February's
results. I realize this is a holiday weekend, but I hope most of
you can make it on to hand out some QSOs.
If you have never operated the Sprint before - this might be a
good time to give it a try. It is one of the most intense radio
experiences out there.
Here are some pointers for the first timer:
1. The code speeds typically used are over 30 WPM - however, if you
are not comfortable at that speed - feel free to call CQ at your own
speed and people will QRS for you. A good place to do this is above
the concentration of activity (typically around 55 or 60 kHz above
the band edge). Most sprint operators keep an ear out for slower speed
stations up there. The QRM is also less.
2. The QSY rule is unique to the sprints. If you call CQ and work someone
as a result - when you are done - you must QSY at least 5 kHz to call
another CQ. This means the guy who answered your CQ inherits your
frequency.
3. A good way to increase rate is to find someone who is just finishing
up a QSO and call them. After the QSO is complete - you inherit the
frequency and can work another station. You get two QSOs for each
frequency instea of just one if you were only CQing.
4. The contest starts at 00Z on Sept 5th (Sept 4th local time in the
USA). It goes for four hours. Activity will initially be on 20 meters.
Stations start QSYing to 40 around 0115 UTC, but there will still be
activity on 20 as last as 0230 UTC. The last hour of the contest is
mostly spent on 80 meters. After the contest - many people check in
on 3830 to exchange scores and stories.
Full rules can be found in QST or at http://www.waterw.com/~ncj/.
The exchange is a QSO number - your name and state/province/dx country.
If you have any questions - please send me e-mail and I will do my
best to make your first sprint as much fun as I can.

Following on from the posts regarding WAE with TR from EU the following
changes would be helpful.
1. The ability to start the QTC rx sequence without sending QTC? It would be
nice to be able to just open the window and be ready to start the data
input. The reason for this is that you may be asked if you want to receive a
qtc at the end of a qso and all you can do is send QTC? in order to start
the sequence this seems a bit stupid as the other op has already asked you
the question. Even the ability to abort the cw message with esc would be
useful, then I can send a fill with the paddles. Another situation occurs
sometimes when you ask for a qtc and get no reply, you then abort the
sequence as if QRU only to find the station on the other end decides he can
give you them. The only way to start the sequence is to ask him again with
QTC? which seems a bit daft.
2 It would be nice for the control-ent to work for the QTC input thus not
sending the R after each QTC. With TR at present you cannot ask for all the
data to be sent without breaks which happens on occasions. Sometimes an op
will ask for all the QTCs without breaks to speed up the traffic and TR
makes this impossible at the moment.
The above small fixes together with the ability to edit the QTC line during
entry would really clean things up from the EU side.
Any comments ?

This is actually a bug. ESCAPE should abort the QTC? CW message, but
still leave you in a position to continue on with the operation. I have
fixed this for the next release.
I think using ESCAPE is the best approach here - anything else would
be counter intuitive and you wouldn't use a "start a QTC without sending
QTC?" command enough to remember it.

I was hoping Alt-K could be used to mute the CW - but it appears not.
However, both Alt-K and Control-Enter will now function when receiving
QTCs (in the next release). The QSL message will not be sent as well
if you have disabled CW with Alt-K.
I should probably do the same when you are sending QTCs.

I work on that the next time I can't sleep.

Yes - this has been recognized - and that is why we are trying to
get the word out. Normally, this contest is held on the Saturday
after Labor Day, but was accidently scheduled on the wrong weekend
this year. This has happened a couple of times before with decreased
activity.
The NCJ "people" determine the dates - and I believe they are putting
corrective actions in place to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Sorry you won't be able to make it. Hopefully someone else can put
the rare famous potato multiplier on the air for those of us who can.

Tree, is it also possible to make Escape to exit the packet window (Ctrl-B).
It would really make Escape pretty universal. I use it for all the similar
situations and tend to press it always when I want to leave terminal window
as well.

If you have it setup so the ones you work get erased - they will
all fit on the screen after you have worked some of them.
Alt-G switches between multiplier types - domestic, DX, prefix and zone.

I have the editing working really well now when receiving QTCs.
The cursor keys, INSERT, home, end, Control-A, Control-S, Control-D,
Control-F, Control-G, Control-T (deletes next word) and BACKSPACE
all seem to do the right thing.
So - I think I have addressed the concerns for those receiving QTCs.
Now - for those sending them - I think the following things will be
done:
1. Implement Alt-K to turn off the computer generated CW.
2. Add some space between the entries and an option to QRS.
Was there anything else? I forget if I am sending the whole time
each time or just the last two letters.
Oh - and 3. Don't send QTCs for the station I am sending them to.

As we speak, Tree is adding the following function to TR-Log for the
Sprint editors...
you type SKED SPRINT X YY (where X is the month and YY is the year) into
the call field
and it will display the proper dates to schedule the CW Sprints to avoid
President's Day and Labor Day

If you are not a life member - you can ignore this message.
We have recently become aware that some TR Log users are requesting
updates for the program after they have expired. This practice needs
to discontinue immediately. We don't charge much for the life
membership and it simply isn't enough to carry people beyond their
demise.
Life membership is a contract. You won't see me maintaining the program
after my death - so we expect you to terminate the contract upon yours.
For those of you who are experiencing life after death, or are incarnated
into a new person - you will need to resubscribe with another $100 for
another life membership. If by chance, you are now an Angel or other
life form that will never expire - the price is $300.
Because of the processing involved - we also request that you submit
written notice of you death - 30 days in advance - so we can properly
process the paperwork. I realize that it is only fair that I also
give you advance notice of my death. Madame Wanda has determined that
I will live until 1235 UTC on August 20th, 2051. She can help provide
similar information for others needing it.
I hope you understand the need for these actions and ask for your
voluntary support for these policies.

Hey, if your not a "life" member, does that imply that you are a "dead"

Oh, and Tree, does the contract specify who's life? Mine? Yours? Or the
life of the program? And furthermore, for those experiencing life after

Hi Tree
I have many JA life members here, is she connected to the Internet?
If so would you tell me Madame Wanda's email address? :-)

Subject: [TRLog] How to expand the LCD DOS screen on IBM ThinkPad
Message-ID: <3.0.6.32.19990831104143.007bc0e0@earthlink.net>
Greetings
This is for those of you who may be using an IBM ThinkPad for your
contest logging computer and can't figure out how to make the DOS
screen cover the entire LCD screen (by default, the DOS screen
covers only about 80% of the available screen):
(The procedure below assumes that you've not deleted all those
'unneeded' default icons from your Win95/98 Desktop)
>From your desktop, click on the ThinkPad folder:
Click on the ThinkPad icon
Click on ThinkPad Features
Click on Display (Icon 2nd from top left on my version)
This should present a window named 'LCD/External Monitor'
Click on Advanced
This should present a window named 'Display Advanced Setup'
Under Screen Expansion, click Enable, then click OK
Exit from ThinkPad Features
Exit to DOS and your DOS screen should now encompass the entire width
of the available LCD screen.
Sure makes using TRLog (and I'm sure others as well) a lot more
enjoyable to view and use.
Done!
