Jack,
Check the T-4XC manual to be sure, but I think the Drake uses grid block
keying (negative voltage). You will most likely need a PNP transistor or a
FET to key it properly.
Mike, W4EF........................
Here is a suggested circuit:
           ----------------------*---> +5V
           |                     |
           >          Emmit______|
           < 10K          /
     1K    >      Base ||/
  <-^V^V^- *-----------|  PNP Transistor
   CPU_Key_Line        |\
   (low = XMIT) \-----------> to key input T-4XC
                        Coll.
P.S. You will have to use the INVERT software switch with the Keyer Output Port
command (e.g. KEYER OUTPUT PORT = SERIAL 1 INVERT) otherwise the CW
will be inverted

Subject:	[TRLog] CW Keying Circuit Question
My FT-1000MP just went on the blink and I have to send it back to Yaesu. As
such I will be using my Drake C-line as my main station for a while. Does
anyone know if the keying circuit in the manual using a 2N2222A transistor
can key the T4XC safely or do I need a different circuit?

Jack - N2JT
