Hmmm - I have not had that problem with mine.  Is the audio level okay
for either playback (previously recorded) or live?

You might be able to enable the hot keys by using the option to use
the BIOS for the keystrokes.  I think the Control-J parameter is 
USE BIOS CALLS or something like that.
