[Trlog] Puzzle--SSB mode taking over from CW mode

This is a new one on me.
All of a sudden my SS2004 contest file is starting
up in ssb mode, which I never use.
I can't figure out how to get it to stay in cw mode.
I go into ctrl J and set multiple modes to true, then
ctrl-M to switch back to cw.
Then ctrl-J to go back to "can't switch modes" in hope
of locking in cw mode.  No good.  Next startup, I'm right
back in ssb mode.
What's going on?  This just started today, after a year of
very fine running in cw mode only.
