Oooops,

Sorry Paul - too many reflectors going at once. I managed to
respond to your note while thinking about a similar one on
the RTTY reflector. My apologies to all. The contest season
has started and life is good even if I can't keep the
reflectors straight! Sorry about that.

Paul et al,

As a long time CW op but a new guy to RTTY contesting I've
been puzzled why "cut numbers" are used in RTTY operation
at all. In CW it does in fact reduce the time used in the
character sent however in the digital modes what's the point
since there is ZERO difference in the time required to
transmit the character in question (speaking of just the
difference between an "N" and a "9"). Plus if you consider
that in the "5NN" case you need to transmit a numbers then
letters shift where in the "599" case you don't I suspect
the "5NN" actually takes longer. Additionally, given the
confusion cut numbers can create even amongst the CW crowd
it just seems like an unneeded complication.

Your thoughts please...

This is a small matter.

When I use a ] in the spec for an F-key to repeat the last
RST or the complete exchange (set with the [ symbol), the
full numeral 9 is sent in the repeat instead of the short N
abbreviation that was sent in the original. 5NN is repeated
as 599.

I would prefer that the repeat match the original, both
using N instead of 9 in RSTs.

Although there are switches to control numeral
abbreviations, as I read the manual they would apply to
items like QSO numbers that I prefer to leave at full
numerals.
