I've noticed the same thing (slow freq update) in the recent versions.  6.79 works fb in that regard.  I believe that was one of the last versions that Ron, KK1L, worked on.

Also, both 6.96 and 7.00 read the radio (Orion) less frequently
han does 6.78 - same logcfg.dat file used for all programs.
hat may be a "clew" about the behavior - 6.96 and 7.00
eem to wait an eternity (i.e., at least a second (!)) to update
requency changes from the radio's tuning knob.
