It is aparant that some members are uncomfortable about the propriety of the debate on this reflector in recent days. Although no one wishes to see personal vendettas being aired, what we have seen are the writers honest opinions brought about by frustration of not being informed or consulted prior to major decisions being taken and being kept permanantly in the dark.

The primary cause of all this negative debate is due to lack of communication by hfcc. When changes are made or there are new introductions unannounced or unexplained then there is certain to be resentment or the tendancy to jump to wrong conclusions both of which could have been avoided by better, or even any, communication. To quote a recent example we have David (G4BUO), on this site explaining the introduction of the cabrillo format, it should not be necessary for him, or any other hfcc member to have to impart this information by way of a defensive role when the committee have been criticised.

We know that space in Radcom is limited and it can take quite some time from input to publication but hfcc do have their own website which would be a perfect medium to keep in touch with the contest members.

It would be a great advance if a news section could be added to the site to impart information such as the cabrillo matter and other items of interest. It would also be beneficial to include a resume` taken from the minutes of committee meetings of matters that are likely to be of general interest to members. They could also seek views and opinions prior to implementing decisions. Such a course would provide some transparency and allow members to feel that they are able to play some part in the process. As a result there would be a decline in the negativity and more positive and proactive responses and suggestions. In return the committee would have instant response and feedback in time for their next meeting, In my view this arrangement would be a great step forward and a sure way to improve the morale of many members who currently feel disregarded and dis-enfranchised.
