Dear All

Thanks for your kind and accurate responses .. problem now solved.. all working perfectly.

In it's rig menu Writelog just says Icom706.  I hadn't realised that different 
models of the 706 have different "addresses."  In my test set-up I had used the correct
one for my 706 Mk II.hence no problem. Unfortunately  Writelog assigns a different 
address.

Fortunately it's easy to go into the IC706 menu and change it's address.. i.e. tell it to think it's a different rig!
