A very slow contest from up here on the Summer Isles. The sun and 25C
temperatures made up for that though.
Next year we will not have the two features which made this contest so busy.
There will be no associaicion with an internationaly advertised historical
event and no GQ prefixes to get excited about. Beware, it's back to 'auld
clothes and porridge' next year!
The interest from outside the Commonwealth was fantastic , the need now is
to capitalise on this momentum for next years event and offer something of
interest. UK call areas(minimum) as multipliers are a must for the
future and I would sugest that mults count both on cw and ssb and per band
Great to hear so many M3's on the bands but very sad when they tried
to work a UK contest station to be told 'sorry can't work you' That's not
the way to encourage participation. Inter UK working is a must.
A lesson can be learned form the way IOTA has stuctured its sections and
this could be extended to the new contest. This gives most operators a
niche where they can compete at a comfortable level or go play with the big
boys if that is their want! Also let ROW work ROW for points which
helps sustain interest when bands are quiet.
I know there are many people
who have a drawer full of certificates, but judging form comments on several
reflectors this is still a motivating force amongst participants.
Lots of sections and the opportunity to receive a certificate recognising
effort will encourage participation.
