Jubilee Contest - Totally agree with Ed. It was certainly a good one
for the celebrations though. The main thing is to learn from this so that
the old Commonwealth Contest rules can be brought up to date and
make the event more attractive to UK entrants.

IOTA Contest - Generally agree with Ed, but certainly don't agree with
Clive. (But then we can always count on some negative comments from
him!!) It certainly is the RSGB's Flagship Contest, and definately IS a
major international event. I can't see how lots of guys running at 400 Q/H
saying 59 14 would improve it. Ok so some of the Italians insist on giving
last two letters, frustating yes but it also attracts some very competent
top
runners both from the UK and other countries. And, isn't it great to run the
JAs? They are just so disciplined

BTW the way Clive's example, was not so much poor operating, more a
case of inexperienced operating. The mult station could work a non-mult
but not claim points for it, although one might wish not to in case it was
missed during log clean up and then penalised during adjudication.

Scoring is easy enough, although some ageing GW3s might need an abacus :
15 points if the guys gives you an IOTA reference, 3 points if he don't.
Mind you have to be on the ball in case his IOTA ref is same as yours, then
you stick in 3 points. Phew!

If I have any misgivings, it is being too busy to enjoy the Qs with those
guys
who have gone out and activated rarer Islands. The need to maintain at least
125Q/H for the whole 24 hours on both modes with a complex exchange
whilst passing mults over the other station to move around other band/modes
is just slightly challenging. (we'll do it one day!)

It's a good contest, loadsa activity, something for everybody. Like Ed
says -

Give it a try. Chris G3SJJ
