[UK-CONTEST] GW3NJW WAEDC RTTY SOHPUA

Decided virtually on the spur of the moment, and in view of the
cancellation of an event in my extensive (?) social
calendar-owing to the inclement weather-, that I should get my
feet wet on RTTY insted of tramping across boggy fields.
Sooooh my first ever RTTY QSO in modern times ( I am an old
Creed 7B freak from the '70s!), was in the WAE contest. The jury
is still out on whether this was a wise decision; suffice it to
say that my feet got more than damp, and Wellies would have been
an appropriate choice of footware in the shack! OK, so I have
operated WAE on CW , and I know what QTCs are all about, at
least on the receive side, but this was a quite different
experience. In the CW event it was necessary to beg for QTCs,
which made it tough, but I never dreamed that there would be a
problem in " giving them away" in this event. Indeed there was,
and bizarrely I failed to dispose of even 50% of my own QSOs.
This- in hindsight- was due to a virtual total lack of strategy,
and not really trying until the Sunday. This was a double edged
sword, because I was then so busy trying to send QTCs, that I
had no time to concentrate on receiving them. My excuse?, I
didn't really decide to do anything until almost midday Sunday.
I can now see that if I had put in a full 36 hours *and* had a
proper QTC strategy, that based on last year's results, other
things being equal ( which they seldom are), that I could have
made the top ten box. Oh well, sometimes scratch efforts go
better than anything else, and now there is a target for next
year.
