Well, one contest to forget from here! I was working in Bombay until the
day before and arrived back in Kuala Lumpur the morning of the contest
and then flew to Pulau Pangkor (AS-072). The island QTH is great and I
have done well from there in the past but this time my 100W and
Sigma 5 vertical did not want to play. I operated SB 15m and only made
162 QSOs with hourly rates of between 15 to 20 QSOs! Conditions were
awful and even the usually loud Ukranians were very weak.
Congatulations to G3RTE the only UK station to hear my CQ! Best UK
signals on 15m were GM7V and MD4K who had no problems with my callsign.
I spent a _long_ time with one UK station who couldn't get the G4ZFE
part of my callsign and then wouldn't confirm it! Other UK stations
worked - G0IVZ (20m), G6PZ, GI5W, GM4YXI. UK gotaways include G4BUO
(Dave, I tried!), G3MXJ and M2A (my UK contest group!). Great signals
from XT2DX in 9M2 on 15m after the band had closed to the rest of the
world.
I only heard one split operation - XW1IC - who was right at the top of
15m (21.145) and taking up 5 kHz.
I will be QRO with a beam for the ARRL 10m contest. Ian, 9M2/G3TMA and
myself will operate multi-op.
Some photos from AS-072 are on the web - http://g4zfe.com/cqww02.html.
Sorry, no audio this time as I forgot to take the audio lead to my
laptop!
73 de Rich, 9M2/G4ZFE
