Jim, surely this is a well established technique on CW and SSB Field Day. I am aware of
it being used for at least 6 years. I think it was the Gravesend end group who coined the
phrase "Big knob man and little knob man"
The main operator twiddles the big knob, ie Main VFO A and the second op searches for new
Qs/Ms by twiddling the little knob, ie Sub VFO B. Each position has his own networked
computer and the system can be configured for main op to work all stations or both ops.
I've used both methods.
With the FT1000D and some outboard switchery, little knob man can S&P on other bands
still using one antenna, but with the FT1kMP you are mainly restricted to run the band.
As regards Andy's comments regarding synchronisation of networked computers, we had
problems back in 96 and 97 with NA during the IOTA contest, mainly because we had to keep
scrolling back up the log. Not experienced any problems since in any contest. NA always
works like a dream with several networked computers, radios serial interfaced and DX
Cluster connected and fed through to all computers.
Must say though with the demise of real DOS I am starting to look towards Writelog,
presumably one uses ethernet for networking.
I can feel a winter project coming on! 73 chris G3SJJ

Can I ask why when we are only allowed to use one antenna / TX/RX you would
want to use networked logs?
unless a second RX was being used to look for multipliers .. maybe the
Restricted rules need tightening a little?
Thoughts anyone?
