I fear that the format, although welcome, does not mean that those less
well endowed in the signal strength department, are any less
disadvantaged than in a "conventional" contest. Thus, if you have it
flaunt it. Don't even listen to what's in the adjacent 2kHz, just QSY
and CQ again. You will very soon know if you are loud enough to sustain
such a strategy. Let them come to you, until the rate drops , and then
go S&P, until it drops further, then QSY to the next lower band!
<<Also, if someone else beats you to the call, do you wait for him to
finish and call him, or do you move?>>
Oh keep moving I think. My own experience, is that if you are beaten out
on the first call, there is a strong likelihood that will happen on the
second call also. There are no multipliers, so the station you find 1 or
2 up or down is just as valuable as the guy who blew you out first call.
<<Or do you store in memory, guess it will take 38 seconds>>
Too complex for a fast moving contest methinks.
<<Or do you use two radios (on the same band and mode-- is it
possible)?>>
I've done it on 28Mhz with close to a 100kHz split, but you'd need some
well separated antennas to do this in the sprint.
<<Maybe I spend too much time thinking about these and other questions
and not enough time putting out RF!!>>
Erm yes! *THINK* loud. The KISS technique is as valid in the Sprints as
in any other sphere.
Of course I could be taking a road of cobras. No doubt the top guns will
expound.
