Shame about 15, and especially 10m where I only heard EA5DFV and S57UN
CQing, the other 3 Qs were passes and, excepting GM3BCL, were ESP! No other
sigs heard. Most of the East EUs being worked by EA and I on 15m were
inaudible here. Tried to resist going to 20m too soon. It was busy to begin
with but pretty much dried up, so the afternoon was very slow. Probably a
bit too late in getting to 40m. QRM ++ from contesters, incl CW
contesters!, teleprinters, ragchewers, who clearly thought we had no right
to be there, carriers and, no contest would be complete without 'em, some
owners of SSTV gear. It is also quite remarkable how narrow some operators
SSB filters must be ;-) Patience, however, is a virtue, which I try very
hard to exercise. It is usually successful. 80m was great fun and 160 had a
decent amount of activity to see off the event.
It was great to see so much activity from the UK on the low bands,
especially from lots of M3 (just like in WPX) as well as loads of G1,6,7
and 8 calls. Almost without exception, the experience of these operators
showed in getting a complete QSO in difficult conditions. Weak signal VHF
is a good place to learn how to make QSOs but it is great to have this
wider access to HF. Thanks to all for supporting contesting.
Best wishes
Keith GM4YXI (aka GM8YJU !)
