With Chris GM3WOJ's emigration to ZL, there was no GM7V multi-multi effort
for CQWW CW this year, so GM5A took up the reins with several of those
involved previously at GM7V.
Most of the antenna farm was already in place for the M/2 entry in the SSB
leg, meaning the majority of work to do on Friday would be indoors. 5
stations were assembled, initially anyway - 80, 40, 20, 15, and a shared
160/10 station. Writelog was the chosen logger again, and after some
initial problems getting all stations on the network, we were running by
0005Z.
Heavy rain on Saturday resulted in a leak through the shack roof, rendering
one operating position out of use so for the remainder of the contest, the 5
stations were reduced to 4. I suppose we'll never know what impact this had
on the final score.
A time out was also required on 20m as well on Saturday due to a problem
with the gamma match. My sympathies to those present at the time, who had
to carry out the repair work in the rain!
The good conditions on the higher bands made up for the bad WX Saturday, and
the LF scores were pleasing as well.
Robert M0TTT was invited up to GM to help the team and was a welcome
addition to the ranks. Thanks Robert.
