One idea, as yet half baked...
Using public key encryption it should be possible to have self-verifying
QSOs. In other words the combination of callsign recieved and approximate
time (say + or - 5 minutes) would determine the exchange to be given, say 2
or 3 characters. The exchanges each way would be computer generated, and
when you've got it right you'll know it !
Adjudication would be real-time. In fact, if the scores were being
collected via the internet you could have an accurate result at the end of
the contest.

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] A contest suggestion.
Things have been pretty exciting and cutting edge on UK-Contest
lately.....Everything from "how to make a dipole" to "how to design a new
contest."
Lets face it ..Contests haven't changed much since they were invented. Take
the total number of QSOs and multiply by another number to come up with a
score. and er.. thats it. It's a winning formula of course ..we love
contests.......or rather ...we love some of them. Do we really want to
keep re-inventing the wheel and keep devising more of the same.?
Of course computers have made contesting more fun ..they've taken the
donkeywork out of it. But all they have really done is relace or enhance an
existing mechanical process. We haven't yet harnessed their networking
potential for contesting except through cluster spots
I could easily be a lone voice ..but I would be delighted if our National
Society could lead the way and develop an event with an on-line scoring
system so that we see everyones realtime score as the contest progresses.
I'm pretty sure it would be feasible , but sadly I'm not bright enough to
know how it could be acheived. I know a lot of people will whinge and say
what about this and what about that. But it will certainly happen one day .
Why can't we be first?
