Sorry Steve - just re-read what I wrote earlier - the large thread I'm talking about is not inside the cable-drum, it's inside the lower shaft which carries the brake mechanism. You can actually dismantle the winch without taking it off the tower, but it is easier in a workshop. 73 Chris GM3WOJ
