Jiggle the meter and watch the needle, if it is ok, the movement will be
heavily damped, if it is lively i.e. swings about a lot then the
thermocouple is open circuit.

Knowing we have a lot of experience here, may I ask the following

Does anyone know of an easy way to test whether an RF Ammeter is good or
not ?
ie: That the thermocouple has not burnt out.
