[UK-CONTEST] Inrad Roofing Filter

Thanks Chris. Likewise I started at a lower level. 12 or 13 seems about
right so far.

Ian G3RVM has gone lower down to 9, but maybe a bit too low. I think some
checks are required and maybe end up with different settings per band.

(Chris, would like to try 80m CW with my newish 53ft vertical, based on the
Titanex but half the size, I call it a half-sized Tit since the new boys
refer to the half sized G5!!)

Hi Chris et al

I've set the IF Gain on my MP to 13dB with the roofing filter installed. I
actually increased the gain by 2dB after installing the board (the
instructions imply that you can reduce the gain slightly) - I listened to a
really weak signal and adjusted the IF Gain to what I think gives the best
S/N ratio, by ear. My MP is deaf on 21MHz anyway.

I know this is old news, but MPs are still seriously noisy radios - in the
ARRL 10m contest (which is a great contest from ZL cos the path to the USA
is surprisingly good) we were using a diversity system with the MP in one
ear and a TS850 in the other - this really showed how noisy the MP is I'm
afraid, even with the new board.

Does the roofing filter board work ? I think so...difficult for me to do
direct comparisons but in the 2 CQ WW contests I did not seem to have as
much trouble with nearby stations as before.

Happy 2005 to everyone on the reflector and tnx to John G3LZQ for the QSO on
80m !
