I should add that I wasn't using my amp in this contest!

Got into the shack at about 2010 and switched on. S&P from high to low until
I found a clear slot at 3722. Ran for about 40 mins and S&P'ed up the band
on the second radio from the bottom. Then a station decided to sit on 3721.5
and call CQ. And we'd worked a few minutes previously. I persevered, knowing
that he could hear me. I eventually gave him the frequency (he heard me when
I said that he could have it) and spent a fruitless further 10 minutes on
S&P before calling it a night at about 2105 with 98 in the log.
I quite enjoyed it apart from the episode described above. Seemed like he
felt it was OK to jump on me, who was quite weak, and probably would give up
because I wasn't going to be able to compete with him working people down
the road.
I used an FT1000mp and an FT847 to a dipole at 30ft and a 1/4 wave vertical
with a single tuned radial. I tried using some transmit DSP (which everyone
told me to avoid) instead of the processor on the FT1000mp, and I was
certainly getting heard. It also cut down on the audio spikes which seem to
trip my amp. I do find that the number 8 doesn't get through QRM though. It
must be my accent.
